Before It Exists: The Work Behind Building Temple Built | 030726

Most people only notice a thing once it is finished.

They see the building when the lights are on. They see the result when it looks inevitable. They see the success after the hard part is over and the story has been cleaned up enough to tell.

What they rarely see is the part that matters most: the early mornings, the uncertainty, the missed steps, the quiet corrections, and the small decisions that shape everything long before anyone is watching.

That is the part that interests me.

That is what this journal is for.

Why Built Not Found exists

Built Not Found is a record of building TMPL.BLT before the doors ever open.

Not the polished version. Not the hindsight version. The real version.

The planning. The setbacks. The standards. The lessons that only show up while something is still unfinished.

Most businesses tell their story after they have already succeeded. I wanted to document this one while it is still being formed, because that is where the most useful lessons usually live - not at the finish line, but in the work that happens long before anyone is paying attention.

The beginning was personal

TMPL.BLT did not start as a business concept. It started with a personal realization.

There was a stretch of my life when I had drifted further than I wanted to admit. I had been athletic growing up. I served in the Marine Corps. Training was once part of my identity. It was part of how I carried myself, how I handled pressure, and how I understood discipline.

Then, like it does for a lot of people, life filled the space.

Responsibilities increased. Injuries piled up. Priorities shifted. None of it happened all at once, and that is usually how drift works. It happens gradually enough that you can explain it, justify it, and keep moving - until one day you realize you have become comfortable living below a standard you once took seriously.

For me, that moment came when I saw a photograph of myself.

Not because I felt ashamed. Because I was honest.

I saw a version of myself that was settling. A version living below the standard I knew I was capable of. And for the first time in a long time, I stopped explaining it away.

The rebuild

The rebuild was not dramatic. There was no breakthrough moment, no secret formula, and no overnight transformation.

I just started doing simple things again, consistently.

I trained again. I prayed again. I rebuilt structure where I had let structure slip. One choice at a time. One day at a time.

Over time, my body changed. But the physical change was not the most important part. The deeper change was internal.

My discipline sharpened. My relationships improved. My sense of purpose became clearer. And in that process, I began to understand something that would later become foundational to TMPL.BLT:

Taking care of the body and taking care of the soul are not competing priorities.

They work together.

The body is not everything, but it matters. How we steward our health matters. How we carry responsibility matters. How we show up for our families matters. How we live our faith matters. None of those things live in isolation from one another.

Why TMPL.BLT is being built

TMPL.BLT is the physical expression of those lessons.

It is being built as a place where strength, discipline, accountability, and community are taken seriously - not because fitness is the highest good, but because physical stewardship touches so much else.

It affects how you lead. How you serve. How you endure. How you care for the people entrusted to you. How you respond when life gets heavy.

The goal is not to fill a room with perfect people.

The goal is to build an environment where people can become stronger, healthier, more disciplined, and more capable of living the life they have been called to live.

The work before it exists

Right now, TMPL.BLT does not yet exist as a physical facility.

There are no members training inside it. No classes running. No doors opening each morning.

But that does not mean the work has not begun.

The vision is being refined. The systems are being built. The standards are being established. The culture is being shaped before the space ever opens.

That is what Built Not Found will document.

The work before it is visible. The lessons before they are obvious. The process before the result.

Because meaningful things are not stumbled into. They are built - through conviction, repetition, correction, and time.

And if you are trying to build something meaningful in your own life - a stronger body, a steadier home, a deeper faith, a more disciplined future - this journal is an honest record of what that kind of work looks like while it is still underway.

The work continues.

If you've made it this far, thank you for reading. Temple Built isn't just a building I'm trying to open—it's a community I'm hoping to build. If this vision resonates with you, I'd love to stay connected.
